A MEANS TO AN END

As precious as it is, faith is but the means to an end. For the soul, faith is the seed — spiritual life is the fruit. Life is the natural result of faith. Every person’s life is affected by what each believes. A person’s belief forms the principles of conduct in life. Faith in Christ is the means to a spiritual life with Him. “These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that, believing this, you may have life through His name” (John 20:31). Jesus came that we might have life, and that we have it more abundantly.

We can, therefore, conclude that faith is more than doctrine and rules. It is a profound commitment which confers on us the ability to live a new life in Christ. Faith is –God’s gift to us. It cannot be merited. It is given to us because God loves us. We are asked to respond to God’s loving initiative. Since we have a free will, we can fail to respond (as did many who saw Jesus) and even refuse God’s free gift of faith. “Wherever your treasure lies, there your heart will be also.” (Lk. 12:34)
