ST. PETER’S FAST is the most recent of our four yearly fasts. It was probably introduced by monks within the last few centuries in memory of the fact that these two
apostles strengthened themselves spiritually by fasting. The Church, using the example of these two illustrious saints, prescribes a period of fast immediately before their feasts.
The so-called Peter’s Fast begins on Monday after the Sunday of All Saints and ends on
the 28th of June. Because, however, the Sunday of All Saints does not fall every year on
the same day, this fast may last anywhere from eight days to six weeks.
According to the tradition of our Archeparchy, faithful are to abstain from meat products on Wednesdays and Fridays during Peter’s fast.
