INNER THANKSGIVING by Elizabeth Landeweer:
Sometimes without a conscious thought
My inner heart starts giving thanks-
As if my secret soul had brought
Some new deposit to its banks
And seeing much rich treasure there
And revelling in the large amount
My heart seems instantly aware
That it is heir to the account
I never know what it may be:
Perhaps some gift that God has made—
Perhaps some friend has thought of me,
And lifted up his heart and prayed,
Or maybe angels passing through
The swinging portals of my mind,
Have dropped some gem of heaven’s blue
And left a radiance behind,
Or it may be, upon my part,
I have forgiven some old wrong,
And all I know is that my heart
Is singing a thanksgiving song!
Oh, I have learned to look within,
And count my blessings from above,
Each time I feel my heart begin
To swell with gratitude and love.
This beautiful verse was sent by parishioner Helen Marie Vaclav as we celebrate this Thanksgiving!!
