UPDATE-CAPITAL CAMPAIGN:
The NEW total collected is $137,288.10 for the Capital campaign. We continue to work towards our goal of $200,000. Thank you for your continued generosity and support to our church.
SANCTUARY CANDLE REQUEST:
The sanctuary candle request sheet for 2024 is on the back table in the church. Cost remains $10 per candle. Please call Paula @ (330) 799-5983 for specific requests. Money can be deposited in the weekend collection.
LITURGICAL REQUESTS:
We have not been receiving liturgical requests. Please send your liturgical request envelopes into the collection basket or call Paula Slemons.
SISTERS OF ST. BASIL PILGRIMAGE:
Sisters of the Order of St. Basil 90th Annual Pilgrimage will be held Labor Day Weekend at Mount Macrina in Uniontown, Pa. Seeker of the Lost is this year’s pilgrimage
CHURCH PICNIC:
All parishioners and families are invited to a parish picnic on Wednesday, July 31st @ 6:00 pm at Infant Jesus of Prague. The picnic will be held in the church pavilion. Everyone is asked to bring their favorite side dish. All meats, condiments and beverages will be provided. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the back of the church. We hope to see you all there.
CELEBRATION OF MARRIAGE:
The annual Celebration of Marriage will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at St. Elias Church. All parishioners who are celebrating their wedding anniversaries of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 or additional years that are multiple of 5 during this year of 2024 will be honoured. If you are unable to attend, certificates will be sent. Please notify Paula Slemons or Fr. Michael by THIS SUNDAY, July14th to relay your information to the Chancery.
SANCTUARY CANDLE:
The Sanctuary candles will be lit for the entire week for your intentions. The week of July 14-20, 2024 the left sanctuary candle is in memory of +Steve & +Margaret Planey from Steve Planey. The right sanctuary candle is in memory of +Aunt Marge Sekerak from Pam & Kim Trevis.
Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the First Six Ecumenical Councils
The Church venerates the Holy Fathers of the Ecumenical Councils because Christ has established them as “lights upon the earth,” guiding us to the true Faith. “Adorned with the robe of truth,” the doctrine articulated by the Church Fathers, based upon the preaching of the Apostles, has defined the one faith of the Church. The Ecumenical Councils are the highest authority in the Church. Such Councils, guided by the grace of the Holy Spirit, and accepted by the Church, are infallible.
Here is a brief listing of when and what they dealt with:
• 1st in Nicaea in 325: Refuted Arian heresy and affirmed Jesus is Son of God. The first part of the creed is composed.
• 2nd in Constantinople in 381: Refuted heresy of Macedonius and affirmed Holy Spirit is God. The second part of creed is composed.
• 3rd in Ephesus in 431: Refuted heresy of Nestorius and affirmed Mary is the Mother of God.
• 4th in Chalcedon in 451: Refuted Monophysite heresy and affirmed Jesus is one person with two natures: Divine and human. These natures are distinct, unconfused, and in perfect harmony.
• 5th in Constantinople in 553: Condemned errors of Origen and certain writings of others such as Theodoret, Theodore of Mopsuestia, and of Ibas. Reconfirmed first four councils.
• 6th in Constantinople in 680: Refuted the Monothelite heresy and confirmed Christ has two wills: Divine and human which are distinct, unconfused, and in perfect harmony with one another.
