PILGRIM VOCATION ICON PROGRAM:
“Today we begin our Pilgrim Vocation Icon Program! This program is beginning today in every Byzantine Catholic parish in the United States. Everyone in the parish is invited to pray for and encourage others within the Church that they might respond generously to God’s call in their lives. God relies on generous men and women to minister among us as priests, deacons, monks and nuns. The church needs people like you to pray for and encourage them. Every parish has received an icon specially written for this program- “The Call of the Disciples.” Those who accept the icon agree to pray daily during that time for religious and priestly vocations. Every member of the parish is invited to have icon in their home for a week of special prayer for vocations. Prayer booklets are provided. Please see the sign-up sheet in the vestibule. Please see Fr. Michael for further information.
SANCTUARY CANDLES:
Sanctuary candles will be lit for the entire week. For the week of October 12-18, 2025, the left and right sanctuary candles are in memory of +Paula Angelo from Tyler & Arica Hardgrove.
Council of Nicaea II
“But since some find fault with us for worshipping and honoring the image of our Savior and that of our Lady, and those, too, of the rest of the saints and servants of Christ, let them remember that in the beginning God created man after His own image. On what grounds, then, do we show reverence to each other unless because we are made after God’s image? For as Basil, that much-versed expounder of divine things, says, the honor given to the image passes over to the prototype. Now a prototype is that which is imaged, from which the derivative is obtained. Why was it that the Mosaic people honored on all hands the tabernacle which bore an image and type of heavenly things, or rather of the whole creation? God indeed said to Moses, Look that thou make them after their pattern which was showed you in the mount. The Cherubim, too, which overshadow the mercy seat, are they not the work of men’s hands? What, further, is the celebrated temple at Jerusalem? Is it not hand-made and fashioned by the skill of men?”
