Vigil Divine Liturgy on THIS Sunday, August 14^th @ 7:00 pm at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 North Lipkey Road, North Jackson. The 57^th Annual Assumption Pilgrimage will be August 13-15^th.

BLESSING OF FLOWERS:

If anyone would like their flowers blessed, Fr. Michael will be blessing them on Monday after both liturgies (10:00 am @ St. Nicholas and 6:00 pm @ Infant Jesus) in honor of the Dormition of the Theotokos.

SANCTUARY CANDLES:

The Sanctuary candles will be lit for the entire week for your intention. For the week of August 14-20 For the week of August 7-13, the right sanctuary candle is in memory of +Mrs. Marge Sekerak. The left sanctuary candle is in memory of +Mrs. Marge Sekerak .

14:24 The Boat Beaten by Waves

many furlongs distant FROM THE land. The disciples are tossed on the waves again. They are in a storm, fully as bad as the previous one. Gently and by degrees he ex­cites and urges the disciples on toward greater responsiveness, even to the point of bearing all things nobly. Whereas in the previous storm they had him with them in the ship, now they were alone by themselves. Even when he was asleep in the boat in the previous situation, he was ready to give them relief from danger. But then he was present to them.

Now he is leading them into a greater degree of challenge. Now he is not even present to them. He has departed. In mid-sea he permits a storm to arise. This was all for their training, that they might not look for some easy hope of preservation from any earthly source. He then allows them to be tossed by the storm all night! This had the purpose of awakening their stony hearts in a most complete way. This is how Jesus dealt with the nature of their fear, which the rough weather and the timing had produced. CHURCH CLEANING:

We are looking for volunteers to help us cleaning our Church. Cleaning is planned every other week and includes vacuuming, cleaning pews and windows. If you would like to donate your time to clean God’s house let Fr. Michael know. Thank you!

hilary of poitiers: When the disciples advised that the crowds be sent away into the neighboring villages to buy food, he answered, “They do not need to go away.” This signaled that these people whom he healed with the food of teaching, teaching that was not for sale, had no need to go back to Judea and buy food. He ordered the apostles to give them something to eat. But was Jesus unaware there was nothing to give? Did he not know the disciples possessed a limited amount of food? He could read their minds, so he knew. We are invited to explain things by reasoning according to types. It was not yet granted to the apostles to make and administer heavenly bread for the food of eter­nal life. Yet their response reflected an ordered reasoning about types: they had only five loaves and two fish. This means that up to then they depended on five loaves—that is, the five books of the law. And two fish nourished them—that is, the preaching of the prophets and of John. For in the works of the law there was life just as there is life from bread, but the preaching of John and the prophets restored hope to human life by virtue of water, Therefore the apostles offered these things first, because that was the level of their understanding at the time. From these modest beginnings the preaching of the gospel has proceeded from them, from these same apostles, until it has grown into an immense power. on Matthew 14.I0.

Fr. Michael was tested positive for Covid, there would not be a Liturgy on Saturday night or Sunday Morning this weekend. On Sunday morning Monsignor Alexis will celebrate the Liturgy at 9 Am at Infant Jesus only. Stay safe!

They ardently seek to destroy and dispossess all that is, acts, moves and lives. They seek the death of people. The ancient enmity of deep-rooted wrath and malice is in store for the human race. Demons do not give up easily unless they are forcibly overcome. They are doing the harm they are ordered to do. There­fore the foul-smelling animals are delivered up that it may be made clear to the demons that they have permission to enter the swine but not to enter humans. UPDATE-CAPITAL CAMPAIGN:

The NEW total we have collected is $100.927,77 for the Capital Campaign.  We continue to work towards our goal of $200, 000. Thank you for your generous donations and continued support to our Church.

HELPING HANDS:

Please mark your calendars for our annual “Helping Hands “that will be held on Saturday, July 16th starting at 9:30am for Church and July 30 for Cemetery at 9:30am.  Our plan is to get the grounds of the church spruced up. A refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you all there.

SCHOOL OF DIACONAL STUDIES:

School for diaconal studies are now accepting new applicants for 2023. Any man who are discerning a call to the diaconal service for the church are encouraged to apply. Deadline to register is July 1, 2022. Classes for the first year of the 4 year program will be held June 18-July 1, 2023 in the Seminary. A two week residency is required for each year. For further information, e-mail vocations@archpitt.org.

CELEBRATION OF MARRIAGE:

A celebration of marriage will be held by our diocese on September 11, 2022 at St. Elias Church in Pittsburgh for all parishioners who will be celebrating their wedding anniversary of 10, 25, 35,40,45,50 or additional years that are a multiple of 5 years during 2022. Please notify Fr. Michael or Paula Slemons by July 29, 2022 so that your names can be submitted to the diocese.

HAPPY 4^th OF JULY:

Father Michael, Maryna, Andriy, Emma & Veronica wish all parishioners and their families a blessed 4^th of July.

KENNYWOOD:

2022 Byzantine Family Day at Kennywood Park will be Thursday July 28, 2022. It a 100^th anniversary. There are discounted park tickets. Ticket options are: $25 Ride All Day ticket; $22 Senior (65+) Ride All Day; Lunch $10 kids (3-10) and $17 (11+)

There is a sign-up sheet in the vestibule and the deadline to sign up is Monday July 11th. Tickets are prepaid, made to Infant Jesus of Prague. If you would like to participate please let parish office know.

THE VALUE OF LIFE. CHRYSOSTOM:

Note the acceleration of images: just when the lilies are decked out, he no longer calls them lilies but “grass of the field.”13 He then points further to their vulnerable condition by saying “which are here today.” Then he does not merely say “and not tomorrow” but rather more callously “cast into the oven.” These creatures are not merely “clothed” but “so clothed” in this way as to be later brought to nothing. Do you see how Jesus everywhere abounds in amplifications and intensifications? And he does so in order to press his points home. So then he adds, “Will he not much more clothe you?” The force of the emphasis is on “you” to indicate covertly how great is the value set upon your personal existence and the concern God shows for you in particular. It is as though he were saying, “You, to whom he gave a soul, for whom he fashioned a body, for whose sake he made everything in creation, for whose sake he sent prophets, and gave the law, and wrought those innumerable good works, and for whose sake he gave up his only begotten Son.”

SIMPLY SLAVIC: REMINDER

Simply Slavic will be held THIS Saturday June 18^th from noon till midnight. . Homemade food, live music, folk dance performances, educational exhibits, children activities and a bonfire after dark. Come and enjoy the rich traditions of Eastern Europe.

Fathers in Our Lives

We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives.

Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while others fail.
We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed.

This Father’s Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways–both big and small–they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond reach.

So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches and the women of our families.

For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You.
For Yours is the Kingdom and The Power, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever.

Simple abstinence from meat of Friday and enriching spiritual life with more prayers added to our everyday prayer practice.

Fortunate is the man who has come to have God as his helper and to have his hopes in Him alone. Let the Devil bear malice towards him, let all men persecute him and plot against him, let all his adversaries fight against him – he never fears anyone, because his has God as his helper. He remains always a victor, always glorified, always happy, always rich, always cheerful and joyful, even if he happens to fall into extreme poverty and into a great many adverse and grievous circumstances of this present life. For inasmuch as he hopes in Almighty God, he does not despair, he is not sorry, is not anxious, but expects help from Above. Fortunate, then, is such a man and worthy to be deemed happy, just as the Prophet-king David regards such a man as happy, saying: “Blessed is he whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.” Such were all the Prophets, the Apostles, the Martyrs, the Holy Ascetics and all the Saints from the beginning of time.
