UPDATE-CAPITAL CAMPAIGN:

The NEW total with added interest is $348,245.01 for the Capital campaign. Thank you for your continued generosity and support to our church.

LITURGICAL REQUESTS:

Liturgical requests for 2026 are now being taken. Please call Paula @ (330)799-5983 for specific dates.

YOUNG ADULT PILGRIMAGE:

On September 26, 2026, there will be a Young Adult Pilgrimage sponsored by our Archeparchy at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, in North Jackson. Single or married, ages 18-39, are all welcomed. The day begins at 9:15 am with confessions followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am with Archbishop William. Full schedule will be announced as date gets closer.

PARISHIONER NEWS:

Our parishioner, John Porubensky passed away on September 13^th. His services were this past Friday, and he was laid to rest in St. Nicholas cemetery. Our deepest sympathy and prayers to John’s family and friends. Blessed repose to his servant John.

ECF CLASSES:

ECF classes will begin NEXT Sunday, September 27^th.

CORN ROAST:

Thank you to all parishioners, family and friends who attended and brought/made the delicious food at last week’s corn roast. Special appreciation to Zachary Bean & Emily Brown for donating once again the Bounce House and Ken Litwin for making the pumpkin toss game- the children had a great time. The Byzantine Social did a wonderful job organizing the event. Shout to our master grillers (Bob Sheely, Greg Slemons and Paul Kasper) for the delicious hamburgers and hot dogs. Everyone had a wonderful time!!

Reading from St. John Chrysostom (c.347-407)

He that loves father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me. See a teacher’s dignity? See how He signifies himself a true Son of Him that begat Him, commanding us to let go all things beneath, and to take in preference the love of Him? “And why speak I,” said He, “of friends and kinsmen? Even if it be thine own life which thou preferrest to my love, thy place is far from my disciples.” What then? Are not these things contrary to the Old Testament? Far from it, rather they are very much in harmony therewith. For there too He commands not only to hate the worshippers of idols, but even to stone them; and in Deuteronomy again, admiring these, He said. Who said unto his father, and to his mother, I have not seen thee; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, and his own sons he disowned: he kept Thy oracles. And if Paul gives many directions touching parents, commanding us to obey them in all things, marvel not; for in those things only does he mean us to obey, as many as do not hinder godliness. For indeed it is a sacred duty to render them all other honors: but when they demand more than is due, one ought not to obey. Then lest they should be indignant, or count it hard, see which way He makes His argument tend: in that having said. Who hateth not father and mother. He adds, and his own life. For why dost thou speak to me of parents, said He, and brothers, and sisters, and wife? Nothing is nearer than the life to any man: yet if thou hate not this also, thou must bear in all things the opposite of his lot who loveth me. And not even simply to hate it was His command, but so as to expose it to war, and to battles, and to slaughters, and blood. For he that does not take up his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. Thus He said not merely that we must stand against death, but also against a violent death; and not violent only, but ignominious too.
